Yahoo has secured the rights to an app created by a British-Australian teenager in a deal reported to be worth tens of millions of dollars.
Called Summly, the app aggregates news in quick bites for smartphones.
It was created by 17-year-old Nick D'Aloisio two years ago from his London home.
Mr D'Aloisio currently lives in London, but was raised in Australia from a young age, residing in both Perth and Melbourne.

The app will now close, but its technology is to be used in Yahoo mobile products and Mr D'Aloisio will become Yahoo's youngest employee.
Mr D'Aloisio says his technology will reinvent the delivery of information such as news, weather, stocks and finance for mobile devices.
"What I am excited about with Yahoo is under the new leadership of Marissa Mayer, it's a classic internet company that has such a big opportunity," he said.
Mr D'Aloisio, a pupil at King's College School, says he is unperturbed about moving from a start-up to multinational.
"I'm looking forward to it because they've built a really great environment for start-ups and founders," he said.
He says he plans to invest his multi-million dollar windfall, although admitted that due to his age, he "could not really touch it" yet.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though technology blog AllThingsD reported Yahoo paid roughly $30 million, citing anonymous sources.
Teenage richesOther self-made teenage millionaires

Catherine and David Cook (start-up ages: 15, 17):
MyYearbook.com
In 2005 the siblings launched a site for people to create interactive year books. Over 950,000 joined in the first year and the company's networth now exceeds $10million.

Ashley Quails (start-up age 14):
Whateverlife.com
In 2004, after borrowing $8 from her parents, Quails started the website which provides Myspace layouts and HTML tutorials for people her age. The site's networth now exceeds $4million.

Juliette Brindak (start-up age 10):
Missoandfriends.com
Miss O is a site for girls between 8-12 years old. Since launching the site, Brindak has also released a book which sold 120,000 copies. The site's net worth is now in excess of $15 million.

Adam Hildreth (start-up age 14):
Dubit Limited
The English social networking site was founded in 1999. Since the launch its popularity increased and by 2005 it had made Hildreth $3.7 million. He is now worth an estimated $38 million.

Sean Belnick (start-up age 14):
BizChair.com
Created in 2001 thanks to a $500 investment from his step-father, the business was run out of Sean's bedroom. By 2009 the company's revenue reached $43.9 million and he is worth an estimated $42 million.

Speaking to PM last year, D'Aloisio explained that he got the idea for Summly when he was revising for an exam.
"I was revising for some history exams and using Google and the problem was that I was kind of clicking in and out of all these search results and found the process quite inefficient.
"With Summly the idea is to take search results and show summaries, synopses of the search result so you kind of just click on something that's you know the most relevant thing to you, saving you time.
"That's how it came about and that's how I ended up building this app that makes news really easy to consume and it's been a 12-month journey, taking that initial idea and watching it evolve."
Explaining how his app differs to current digital news services, D'Aloisio also said: "It's coherent and not like with some of these news services where they extract the first sentence or two sentences and put dot, dot, dot, at the end of that paragraph.
"That usually doesn't actually make any sense and it's a poor user experience whereas with Summly, we have basically the same length of content. Two, three sentences but in a really nice summarised and coherent fashion."
It is the latest in a string of small acquisitions intended to bolster the web portal's mobile services.
Yahoo chief executive Marissa Mayer is stepping up the company's efforts to build online services for the smartphones and tablets.
Yahoo has acquired a handful of small, mobile start-ups since Ms Mayer took over in July, though the company has yet to do any large acquisitions.
